WE ARE PEMBROKE

Also known as Garden Homes Community, this area nestled in the northwest section of Detroit includes 45 blocks, between Stoepel and Wyoming and Eight Mile and Pembroke. The Garden Homes Community Organization focuses on the unforgettable, rich history and legacy of this Eight Mile Road neighborhood, helping our senior citizens and youth come together to strengthen our neighborhood and promote community interaction. Throughout this area, framed and brick homes dating back to the early 1920s still stand alongside framed and brick homes built in the 1960s on tree-lined streets. Three streets in the area — San Juan, Santa Barbara and Woodingham — were built with no alley way for trash, but residents now use their long backyard lots for vegetable gardens and patios. Other landmarks in the community include Oak Grove AME Church and Wisconsin Church of God in Christ.
