Barton-McFarland

WE ARE BARTON-MCFARLAND

Barton-McFarland is a close-knit community with a focus on neighbor support and camaraderie. The neighborhood association has been around since the mid-'60s. The majority of residents are property owners, which makes a difference in the stability of the neighborhood. Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School and Drew Transition Center are schools in the neighborhood. The former Drew High School now maintains 4 acres of land that students and staff use to grow vegetables and fruits; in the wood shop, students make canes, park benches and swings. Resident activities have included summer parades, block parties, participation in the MotorCity Makeover, Arise Detroit, and other programming. There is an ongoing rehab of Cross Park to install new swings and seed the lawn. Several residents are precinct delegates involved in community revitalization and volunteering efforts to set good examples for the neighborhood children.
